summer closing

I's not often we venture out to such events with the rest of Melbourne but we headed in for White Night and roamed about the car/ tram free streets admiring our city, all lit up in the balmy evening. Fed Square was particularly lovely - at night time it feels other-worldly.

Finished another book, savouring every quiet moment of immersion in case it's my last read for a while....

Back at Uni; I'm taking my private singing lessons with a wonderful South Indian woman who I know will stretch me beyond my comfort zone. I've always wanted to learn Classical Indian singing so this is my little window of opportunity.

How was that rain last night/ this morning!!!? From whence did all that water come? So very welcome it was. Soothing balm for our dry, dusty souls. I'm excited about Autumn like a child anticipating Christmas. Winter too. I look forward to rugging up; hunkering down; stews and soup; wrapped in a blanket reading in bed with a cup of tea...
But first, glorious Autumn - bring me your rusty tones, your consistency, your mild, clear days and cool nights.

things a-brewin'

The garden is dry, like everyone's garden. We still have plenty of fat red tomatoes to pick, and our first harvest of small fuji apples, but everything else has finished. Time to start digging and clearing and sorting and making room for autumn.
I go back to Uni on Monday so let's see how much blogging gets done! I'm looking forward to it. There's music galore all of a sudden! Appalachian mountain songs with Em and Jo (a band name to come) and a Hawaiian jazz trio. as soon as we have some recordings I will post links. Vocal harmonies being the focus of both trios, I am in heaven. It's my favourite thing. Three is really the magic number it seems.
I just joined Ravelry. I am part of a primary school community of insatiable knitters and this will be the Winter of My Casting On. I've only ever made scarves. Now I have a little list of projects to start on, and a knitting group of lovely ladies to frequent.
Knittin' and sangin' - oh my stars Delilah - what a joy.

nine

Beautiful Bella turns nine this week. I finished the doll and Martin made the gorgeous cradle, decorated with bees .Our children are growing up tall and strong, witty, wise, creative and delightful.

I found a book of stories and drawings of mine from school in 1976. I was 8; around the same age as our kids now. It's fun to read them together. Now and then I regret the day I burned my 30 diaries on a fire in Byron Bay 13 years ago. I'd kept a diary since I was 14 until that time - 31. My dad sent me the last few boxes of my stored belongings and because I was such a nomad at the time, I decided that carrying so much stuff around in my van was ludicrous and proceeded to lighten my load. I could have left the boxes in WA. There were many things I let go of,  that now as a parent, I would love to have hold of. Those diaries contained all the secrets of the teenage psyche! What a hoot at the very least it could have been to share them with the kids!

eight

He turned 8 last week, that beautiful boy and he was so happy after a lovely picnic with lots of friends. We spent the greater part of yesterday playing Monopoly that he received from the grand folk. I love it that he's at the age where we can settle into something like that together. Heavenly.
